Shadows Of... Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine, Volume 6

I approved Shadows Of... Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine, Volume 6 but made a few changes to conform to standards. I moved the issue number to the title, changed the NONFICTION contents to ESSAY (NONFICTION is only for book-length works) and separated Joe and Jack C. Haldeman into two authors rather than one. Shadows Of . . . #5

I've accepted your submission adding this issue of the magazine, but have made some changes based on ISFDB standards and on info from Miller/Contento's sf magazine index. The price should have a currency, so I added the dollar sign. I changed the title from "Shadows Of... Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine, #5, Fall, 1981" to "Shadows Of . . . Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine, #5 Fall 1981" (note the spacing of the ellipsis and the use of commas to separate title from date). The page count from Miller/Contento is "72+" which we change to 76, because we include the covers in magazine page counts. The pub format is "quarto" (roughly 8 1/2" by 11") according to Miller/Contento, who also give Dell Harris as the cover artist. I linked the cover image from Galactic Central who have given us permission to deep-link to their images. If you have a copy of this issue, please do a primary verification of the record. One question: you give the piece on page 58 as "Tausann's Child - Part", typed as a serial. Miller/Contento gives it as a comic strip which we type as INTERIORART. "Tausann's Child" was really an early short graphic novel. More of a comic book style short story. Not sure what category is best for it. Dmatkins 10:18, 19 October 2011 (PST)
The SERIAL type is reserved for fiction, usually of a novel published in multiple issues of a magazine. Currently, the ISFDB doesn't support graphic novels, but any excerpts in sf-related magazines should be typed as INTERIORART. Mhhutchins 05:29, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Locus editor credit

I have your submissions adding Dawn Atkins (who I'm assuming is you) as a co-editor of Locus, starting with #282. There are many editorial roles in producing a magazine, but the ISFDB editor field is reserved for the person(s) who are credited either as the Editor or Editor-in-Chief. We currently do not have fields for other roles, such as Managing Editor, Contributing Editor, Associate Editor, Editorial Director, Features Editor, Reviews Editor, or Assistant Editor. Looking at issue #282, the credits published include Editor & Publisher (Charles N. Brown), Assistant Editor (Faren Miller), Editorial Assistant (Donna Burriston), and five Contributing Editors. I'll have to reject your submissions. You can always add additional credited roles in the Note Field of the record. If you feel this is in error, you can leave a message here, or present it to all ISFDB editors on one of the community forum pages (such as the Rules & Standards discussion page.) Thanks. As mentioned above, you can record the credit in the Note Field. BTW, if a record has a Primary Verification (the first line under the record's displayed Verification Status), you should notify the verifier/editor before making any substantial change in the record. If it's a minor change, you can make a submission, but still notify the editor. Each editor has different levels of notification which are usually posted at the top of each one's talk page. Thanks. Reviews

A review record should consist of these three basic elements: 1) the title of the book being reviewed, 2) the name of the book's author, and 3) the name of the reviewer. I rejected the submission to add a review titled "Asprin in Review - Mythcellneous" by Robert Asprin, reviewed by Cynthia Haldeman, because the title was not a book by Asprin. If this is a review of several different works by Asprin, you should creat a review record for each title under the REVIEW section of the pub record. If it's a general overview of a series of books, but not specifically of any one title, you can create a single record of the ESSAY type under the CONTENT section of the pub record. Do we list it as an essay? Those sections each time were a review of the body of work of the author at that point, with specific books mentioned. Dmatkins 10:16, 19 October 2011 (PST)
They should be entered as essays. If a substantial amount of the essay is a review of any particular book (or books), you can also create a review record for each title. Mhhutchins 05:21, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
