Welcome!

Hello, Dragonstairs, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 18:39, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Your recent set of submissions

There's a few problems with your recent submissions for publications typed as CHAPBOOK. Here is the ISFDB definition:

  • This publication type is a unique ISFDB designation for a separate publication of a single work of SHORTFICTION (q.v.) or a single POEM. In addition to the single SHORTFICTION or POEM content record, such publications may also contain one or more ESSAY and INTERIORART content records. This type covers all bindings and formats, including ebooks and audiobooks of less-than-novel length fiction.
  • Do not use this type for publications which contain a single ESSAY without a SHORTFICTION or POEM content. Those publications should be entered as NONFICTION. Publications with more than one SHORTFICTION or POEM content record should be entered as ANTHOLOGY (for multiple-author publications) or COLLECTION (for single-author publications).
  • This type should not be confused with the generally accepted publishing format for pamphlets called chapbook or the term used for books intended for intermediate readers called chapter book.

When adding CHAPBOOK records, you should create a content record for the work of SHORTFICTION or POEM.

I also believe what you entered as "pb" (the abbreviation used on the ISFDB for mass-market paperback format) would be better described as a pamphlet or "ph" which we use for short (in page count), unbound, staple-bound, or otherwise lightly bound publications.

Also the price field must include the full price including decimalization. So "$5" should be entered as "$5.00".

It would also be a good idea to enter the publication date as precise as possible. I assume you are the publisher or a representative who can provide either the month or day of publication. A work published on November 18, 2015 would be entered as "2015-11-18" in the publication entry form.

I will go to the publisher's website and use it to update the records.

Please take some time to look over this field-by-field guide on creating and updating publication records on the ISFDB. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins|talk 15:42, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Changes made to your submissions

It Came Upon a Midnight was changed to a COLLECTION and added content records for the three stories.

Midwinter Elves was changed to a COLLECTION and added content records for the three stories.

Season's Greetings was changed to a COLLECTION and added content records for the three stories. I also removed the note about it being for MileHiCon and not for sale, since it is on sale at the publisher's website.

Hunting the Phoenix was changed to NONFICTION, with notes from the publisher's website.

Meditations on Oysters was changed to NONFICTION. The title and author credit also had to be changed.

October Leaves was changed to NONFICTION.

The submissions for "Tumbling" and "Solstice Fire" were rejected because there's already records for them in the database.

A question: Are Purdom's "Rentry", Swanwick's "One Mile Below" and Dozois' "Sunk Beneath the Waves" works of fiction or essays? I could find no mention of them on the publisher's website, which you gave as your source for the data. Mhhutchins|talk 16:27, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
