Welcome!

Hello, Gerryjm, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 18:44, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Kline titles

I rejected the submission to add a record for Ace F-294. It's already in the database here. You attempted to create a new record for it under the wrong title: The Planet of Peril. Mhhutchins 18:46, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! Beginner error I guess. I will be more careful next time.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gerryjm (talkcontribs) .
If you're unsure, do a title search first. Thanks for contributing. (Don't forget to sign you Wiki posts, instructions in the Welcome section.) Mhhutchins 00:18, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Linking uploaded images to the database publication record

Thanks for uploading cover images to the ISFDB wiki. The next step is to link those images to the records of the books for which these are the covers. As the instructions (step 6) explain:

Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) If you're adding a cover image to a pub record, this is the URL which you would enter into the pub record's "Image URL" field.

So once you have the image's URL, go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu. This opens up an edit page. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Enter the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page. Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 05:15, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Cover image upload limits

This file exceed the ISFDB posted standards. All cover image files must not be more than 150 kb in size and no more than 600 pixels tall. I will copy the file, reduce it from 688 to 600 pixels, and then re-upload it. Please keep these standards in mind when creating cover image files. Thanks. Mhhutchins 04:17, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Exceeding upload file limits

It is ISFDB policy that you upload image files that are not larger than 150K in size and no longer than 600 pixels at the longest side. You should get a warning if you attempt to upload anything that's greater than the standards, although nothing actually prevents you from doing so. An exception is made in some circumstances, such as images of wraparound cover art. Most scanners (or graphics software) will allow you to set the files to these limits without much trouble. Thanks for your cooperation. Mhhutchins 17:51, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Holding Wonder

I have your submission to change the cover art for Holding Wonder on hold. As far as I can tell, you are replacing the image with the exact same image. You uploaded it to both Image:HLDNGWNDRK1972.jpg and Image:HLDNGWNDRK1972a.jpg. The first one is what is currently displayed for the publication and is also the correct file name. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JLaTondre (talkcontribs) .

The uploader is seeing the old image instead of the one he just uploaded. This is easily fixed. Just hit the F5 button on your keyboard which will clear the cache of most browsers, and allows you to see the new image. This should be done when replacing an image file on the server with a better one. Hope this helps. Thanks. Mhhutchins 20:00, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
I've deleted the second (duplicate) image file, so the submission should be rejected or the submitter can cancel it. Mhhutchins 20:08, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. I've gone ahead and fixed this using the F5 trick (I read help pages too fast, and missed this!).Gerryjm 18:40, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Catalog numbers

Hi. I accepted your changes to Gray Lensman, but I added a "#" onto the X-1245. For that ISBN / Catalog # field, anything that's not an ISBN should be started with a "#". It's very easy to overlook/forget. Thanks. --MartyD 03:07, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Your recent updates

Hi, I accepted your recent additions of cover images. Thank you very much for this additions. However, it is ISFDB etiquette to inform the primary verifiers of various orders of these additions. In this case I'll do it for you, but please be so kind to pass this information kindly on in the first place. Stonecreek 18:13, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Files exceeding the requested limits

I've copied and resized this file which you uploaded to the ISFDB server. At 380 kb, it exceeded the limit by more than double. Please keep all files at 150 kb or less. Thanks. Mhhutchins 17:07, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

Same situation with this file. Mhhutchins 17:09, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

At 825 pixels tall, this image is too large. Also, you haven't linked it to the publication record yet. If you're having trouble with uploading and linking image files, please ask for assistance at the ISFDB:Help desk. We would be more than happy to help you. Mhhutchins 07:32, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
