Welcome!

Hello, GordonVG, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 03:42, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Barry Malzberg's middle name

This has been a subject for discussion before. If your source is Wikipedia, we've come to the conclusion that it's incorrect. The current data showing "Norman" as the middle name comes from a variety of more reliable sources, including Clute & Nicholls and Reginald. The latter is based on surveys submitted to the authors themselves. Unless you have an even more reliable source, I'll have to reject the submission. Thanks. Mhhutchins 18:44, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

If you'll look at the back of the paperback edition (not the hardcover) of Clute & Nicholls's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SF, you'll find about a dozen pages of corrections and additions. In there Barry Malzberg's middle name is corrected to Nathaniel. I know because I was the US editor of the book and I had the letter from Barry correcting the mistake. I also emailed Barry this week to make sure I remembered it correctly and he confirmed that I did. I'll forward that email to you separately. GordonVG 02:28, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Gordon Van Gelder
The errata is also available online here. BLongley 14:36, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
By the way, from the information you just gave, can we assume that you are in fact Gordon Van Gelder? BLongley 16:37, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, j'suis Gordon Van Gelder. Sorry that wasn't clear earlier. GordonVG 19:56, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Gordon V.G.
Welcome aboard! You don't have to have strong SF credentials to edit here, but now we know who you are be warned that you are probably going to be our F&SF specialist when it comes to questions. ;-) BLongley 20:50, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the verified information. I've updated the author's data, and will note you as the source for the correction. Mhhutchins 13:45, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Cover art unmerge?

I have a submission in which you want to unmerge this cover art title record from F&SF, June 2005. Because this cover is credited to "Matt Hughes" (a pseudonym) but was painted by "Matthew Hughes" (the canonical name), you can't "unmerge" it from the record. I'm not sure exactly what was the intention behind the submission, but I will gladly assist you if there's an error in the record. Looking at each person's summary page, I think there may be two different persons using "Matt Hughes" as a credit, one an author and the other an artist. If this was the case, it's going to take a few more submissions to correct the situation. Thanks. Mhhutchins 00:57, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

I believe I've figured out what you meant by the submission. There are two different persons: an American artist and a British-born Canadian author who have both been credited as "Matt Hughes". I've made the artist "Matt" and the author "Matthew" and have separated their credits. It's not perfect: anyone who links to the name that's credited for the Canadian's early books (published as "Matt Hughes") is going to go to the artist's page. So I may need to do a bit more work, perhaps changing the author's books' credit to "Matt Hughes (I)" and making it into a pseudonym of "Matthew Hughes". Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Yes, that's the correction I wanted to make. I edited that issue of F&SF and I know the cover artist and the author are different people. You can find the artist online at www.matthughesart.com. ---Gordon Van Gelder

A. R. Morlan

Hello, following your submission, I've made the necessary changes to have Renée M. Charles as a pseudonym of A. R. Morlan. Thanks for the information.Hauck 15:16, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
