Welcome!

Hello, Graham1973, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 07:19, 28 April 2018 (EDT)

Stardrifter

I accepted your addition of Stardrifter. I changed the publisher to "Horwitz" as we standardize publisher names. That allows it to be listed with all other Horwitz publications when someone searches by publisher. If you could fill in the remaining data, price, cover, etc., that would be good. We do appreciate your submission. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 07:19, 28 April 2018 (EDT)

Sadly, the copy I've borrowed has the price blacked out on the front cover, if I ever find another copy I'll update it to include the original RRP.
I tried to scan a copy of the cover with the largest side being less than 600 pixels but I kept getting a message saying it was too big, even when I resized it smaller, what is the preferred file size/dimensions? Graham1973 06:14, 29 April 2018 (EDT)
The publication notes field should be used to indicate missing information like the price (ex. "Price blacked out on Graham1973's copy"). If it can be filled in by secondary sources, that is always good, but it should be noted that the source is not the book. I looked up the ISBN in AbeBooks and found a couple copies for sell. They are showing this cover. While we have to be careful with such sources, if that matches, I would be use "A$2.50" for the price and a publication note of "Price blacked out on Graham1973's copy. Price per cover image on AbeBooks". For the cover image, it needs to be less than 600px on larger side, but there is also a file size limit. I don't remember the specific number, but the upload error should tell. Generally, cover images are in the 50-75KB size. Your scan resolution is probably two high (try 200 dpi) or increase the compression on the save. Also, our convention is to keep discussions together. When someone posts on your talk page, you can reply there. The poster will add it their watchlist (and vice versa if you start a conversation on someone else's, they will replay their and you will need to add it your watchlist). It helps make conversations more readable over the long run. Thanks for responding! -- JLaTondre (talk) 07:59, 29 April 2018 (EDT)
I've rescanned the file as a .jpg and found that a 221kb file is too large. Finally managed to get an uploadable version by changing the dimensions to less than 40x on the largest size. Graham1973 02:36, 30 April 2018 (EDT)
Your scan resolution is too high or you're not applying enough compression. We regularly have 600px files in the 50-75KB size. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:19, 30 April 2018 (EDT)
