Welcome!
Hello, Helge, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Help pages
- Field-by-field guide to entering new publications into the database
- Help:Getting Started
- What the ISFDB Wiki is for
- FAQ
- Wiki editing help - Tips on how to use the wiki-specific features when editing wiki pages.
- Wiki Conventions - How things are usually done on this wiki.
- Help:How to upload images to the ISFDB wiki
Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.
Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.
I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 14:56, 1 January 2018 (EST)
Fur Fiction 3
Hello, Helge! Due to your comment, I've put your submission on hold. I seem to understand that there were two different editions by two different publishers. If so, what was the first edition , what was its price and format (and what would be the differences with the second edition).
For an explanation: We not only try to capture different editions, we go even down to different printings, as prices, cover images and sometime even some contents do change over time. But many thanks for your additions so far. Christian Stonecreek 14:13, 2 January 2018 (EST)
Hello Christian,
both editions are completely the same - same price, same content, same cover and same layout. In fact the Solar-X publisher Wilko Müller was so friendly to help with the first Circle of Hagalaz edition; it was just not possible to publish the book by Solar-X at that time.
Best regards from Helge
- Thanks for the explanations. I'll approve of the submission later: the time of publication still seems to have been different. Christian Stonecreek 03:51, 3 January 2018 (EST)
- Okay, done! I also added the second edition, diversified the publishers and changed some fields to our standards (the Euro prices are entered €XX.XX). If you still own some copies you may want to primary verify some of the publications. Regards, Christian Stonecreek 10:58, 3 January 2018 (EST)
Establishing a pseudonym
Hello, Helge! Yes, it's quite easy to establish a variant name relationship (vulgo: pseudonym). There are two steps necessary (which's order is up to you): 1) Make a pseudonym (from the left tool bar of the assumed pseudonym's summary page). 2) Create new titles for the parent name (from the title(s) page(s)). If you do encounter problems, let me know it. Christian Stonecreek 11:21, 3 January 2018 (EST)
Hello Christian, i'm confused - where can i find that thing with the pseudonym? By the authos or the story or somewhere else?
- It's here on the left side under 'Editing Tools'. Christian Stonecreek 06:49, 5 January 2018 (EST)
phantastisch!, #10
Hi Helge, thanks for contributing and for submitting issue number 10 of "phantastisch!" magazine. However, I had to correct numerous errors in your submission:
- Price ares always entered with a dot as decimal separator, and Euro prices without a space after the "€" sign. I changed it to "€4.90". Please read Help:Screen:NewPub#Price for details.
- I removed the image. We are only allowed to link to external images for a few sites. Please read Help:Screen:NewPub#Image_URL for how it works and which sites are allowed. Alternatively you can upload your own cover image into the ISFDB. See Help:How_to_upload_images_to_the_ISFDB_wiki for that.
- The ISBN field is for ISBN numbers only, not for ISSN numbers. I removed the value. You can enter ISSN number in note field of the publication.
- You entered the title of the magazine in the wrong form which is not consistent with the already existing records for this magazine. I changed it to "phantastisch!, #10".
- I removed the publication series "phantastisch" because magazines organized into title series (which is a different thing than a publication series).
That's a lot, but don't worry: you'll learn :) Entering magazines is much more complicated than most other publication types in the ISFDB. If you plan to enter novels as well here you should probably enter them first in order to learn the ISFDB rules (and later return to the magazines).
I don't know if you did it, but one thing you should do before entering magazines is to research the ISFDB for other magazine issues which may already exist. That way you can see how they are organized and how the data look like (see the page for phantastisch!). Don't hesitate to ask questions if something is unclear. - Thank you, i will think about all that! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Helge (talk • contribs) .
- Please indent and sign your wiki contributions. Indentation is done with colons, which are put before a paragraph (e.g. two colons for this paragraph). Signing is done by putting four tildes ~~~~ at the end of the comment. This makes it a lot easier to read and follow conservations in this wiki. Please read General discussion conventions for more details. Thanks. Jens Hitspacebar 04:19, 7 January 2018 (EST)
Solar-Tales 3
Hi, and welcome. I accepted your Solar Tales 3 submission. Did you know that you can record the artwork/art credits in the contents? If, for example, "Der Stern der Dämmerung" has illustrations by Anatoly Paseka, you could add another Content, also titled "Der Stern der Dämmerung", but with type INTERIORART and with Paseka as "author". You do not have to do this; I only wanted to make sure you know you can do it if you want to. --MartyD 07:30, 7 January 2018 (EST)
Story Center 1999/2000
Hi, Helge. I have put your submission on hold, as it seems that the last item stated as collaborative is in fact a bunch of separately written 'Ultra Short Stories' (as stated in the title; also: is the title's "Ratt'" correct?). Christian Stonecreek 07:51, 7 January 2018 (EST)
-- Hi Christian, that are ultrashort stories to a given topic, framed by an article, some of them without an own title, so i found it pointful to see it as one work of different authors.
- Well, it's only meaningful if they were in fact written collaboratively, like the collaborations by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle: if they are distinguishable by authors and / or may be reprinted in future publications attributed to the single authors, they will have to be sorted out item by item. If the latter case seems to be given, they should be listed separately. Christian Stonecreek 08:46, 7 January 2018 (EST)
- So, what's your impression? Stonecreek 02:53, 8 January 2018 (EST)
-- Yes, I will change it today or tomorrow.
- Thanks, I have removed the title from the issue. Please note also the changes of price, publisher, and the transcription of the pub. series into the title series. Thanks, Christian Stonecreek 05:41, 8 January 2018 (EST)
c't 7/2007
Hello, Helge. I have put your submission for this on hold, since it's dated to the year 1996. Which of the years did you have in mind? Christian Stonecreek 14:01, 10 January 2018 (EST)
-- Oops - sorry, that was wrong; the year 1996 is correct.
- Thanks, I accepted & corrected the magazine. Christian Stonecreek 09:28, 11 January 2018 (EST)
Grenzgänger: Die Fabeltiere unserer Welt
A few changes in this one:
- We use ":" for a title/subtitle separator
- When the editors of an anthology are not credited, we use "uncredited" and not the publisher name
- The price format for Euro is always €12.00 (€ first, no space and then dot for the separator)
- We cannot use the cover you added so I replaced with an Amazon.de one.
- The link you added was to a generic page on the publisher site so I removed it; if you have a link for that specific book, feel free to add it again.
The result is here. Let me know if you have any questions! Annie 04:03, 22 November 2021 (EST)
- And the same notes for Zwischen: Licht und Dunkelheit :) Annie 04:06, 22 November 2021 (EST)
- The correct title is "Zwischen Licht und Dunkelheit" which I re-entered (Annie, you should have asked about this or taken a look at DNB or OCLC!). I also added some notes, please check them, when you are back. Christian Stonecreek 11:15, 3 December 2021 (EST)
- So we trust OCLC and DNB more than a book at hand? :) I did check - but a PV with a book has a better visibility on the title page. Annie 14:29, 3 December 2021 (EST)
- Looking again - the editor actually used "Zwischen Licht und Dunkelheit" initially - I added the ":" based on what I was seeing online at the time (or probably because of the other). One question remains though "where is the "Assumed First Edition" coming from? Can we stop adding such statements to PVed books when there is no evidence for that - for all we know the book may be saying something else? If it comes from DNB/OCLC/publisher site, the note should say so. As the publisher site says "Auflage: 1" and the other two say nothing I can see, the correct statement would be "First edition per the publisher site" or we should not add a statement at all. Weltentor Mystery Edition 2019
Mystery stories are out of scope for the DB... unless they happen to be also speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, speculative horror and all genres around and between them). From what I can see this one seems to be straight mystery? Can you confirm that these are actually speculative stories? Thanks! Annie 06:29, 22 November 2021 (EST)
- No response so rejecting. We can unreject if needed at a later date if this turns out to be in scope. Annie 14:18, 2 December 2021 (EST)
