Welcome!

Hello, JarlFrank, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!Kraang 23:00, 22 October 2021 (EDT)

Funtastik

Hi! You entered everything mostly right except you switched the authors and titles around[1]. I'll approve and switch them back. Thanks and welcome!Kraang 23:05, 22 October 2021 (EDT)

After approval and fixing[2] of author & title switching, I added an image adjusted the price to ISFDB standard plus fixed the ISBN #"978" was partly reversed. ThanksKraang 00:07, 23 October 2021 (EDT)

Alice's Adventures in Steamland: The Clockwork Goddess

HI! Added image[3] and change from pb to tp(6 x 9 inches). Thanks!Kraang 21:03, 27 October 2021 (EDT)

Slave Girls for Sacrifice

The length has nothing to do with being a separate story in the DB - the story just needed merging. Someone added the contents instead of importing in some of these and that created separate records that were not merged after that. There were a few more like that on Ritzlin's page so I took care of them all. Annie 06:50, 12 November 2021 (EST)

Necromancy in Nilztiria

A few things needed to be fixed in this one to bring it to the DB standards:

  • You had the link to the ebook in the Web Pages for some reason. We record each format separately so this link has no work in the paper version so I kicked it out.
  • The book is 9x6 inches which makes it a tp, not a pb.
  • For books we use exact publication dates. So I adjusted all the dates.
  • When you typed the titles for the stories, it created new records. I merged a few that were obvious duplicates. Can you recheck the title of "Born to Storm the Citadel of Nettathok"? We already have a "Born to Storm the Citadel of Mettathok", Any chance that one of these is a typo?
  • I added a price and a cover while I was there. Feel free to replace with your own cover.

The result is here. I also added the ebook while I was there. Let me know if you have any questions. Annie 07:00, 12 November 2021 (EST)

Update approved and I merged the old and the new story and all of them are now together. Thanks! Annie 10:06, 22 November 2021 (EST)

The Bizarchives

In regards to The Bizarchives: Weird Tales of Monsters, Magic and Machines. Issue #1. I disambiguated the Preface, as it should have been. Also, is this an anthology, or a magazine, like Savage Realms Monthly? I see there is an “issue” two, will you be doing this one? Or do you want me to do it? Also, authors like MS Jones have to have their names changed to M. S. Jones per ISFDB protocol. MLB 21:48, 16 February 2022 (EST)

Re; Hard Rejects of Winter of Wonder: Superhuman: 2021 Edition merges

Hi! I had to do hard rejects on all your submission because another moderator had merged all the stories in "Winter of Wonder: Superhuman: 2021 Edition" after you had done your submissions. I get an error message such as this"Error: This submission is no longer valid. Can't load title: 3053755." Thought I should let you know what happened.Kraang 17:50, 4 July 2022 (EDT)

I saw a title duplication while working on a publication which had a story by one of the authors in this publication. I corrected all the duplicates. Next time, use the clone publication procedure explained here. Not only will it avoid creating all the duplicate titles, but it will also link the publication to the proper title record. Thanks, John Scifibones 20:15, 4 July 2022 (EDT)

Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy: Volume 4

On this I've added a cover scan, the price, and interior art credit from Amazon UK's Look Inside. MOHearn (talk) 13:20, 24 December 2022 (EST)

The Depths of Love: Love Thy Enemy

Hello. I've approved your submission, but removed the cover artist (for now), as I couldn't find any evidence that Camilla Mayes is the artist, as opposed to being the designer of the cover. We don't record cover designers, only artists. If you happen to have evidence of Camilla Mayes being the cover artist, please submit an update, and add in the notes where you got the info from. Thanks! MagicUnk (talk) 09:08, 23 February 2023 (EST)

Corporate Catharsis: The Work From Home Edition

Hello. I've accepted your submission, but had to change the following:

  • Removed cover designer - only cover artists are recorded, not designers
  • Changed format to tp
  • Added note clarifying where editor-in-chief can be found in the book.
  • Added cover URl
  • Fixed some regular titles where author & title were switched
  • Added source of price (Amazon)
  • Disambiguated Foreword and Afterword

MagicUnk (talk) 09:22, 23 February 2023 (EST)

Yarr!

Fixed format to TP and page count to 235. --Username (talk) 18:25, 17 March 2023 (EDT)

Union

Hello,

I did a few changes in your verified:

  • Fixed the format of the book. A 5 x 8 inches paperback is a tp
  • Moved the ASIN to the correct field - we have the external IDs fields which are used for links to the most common locations and these do not go into the Web Pages.
  • Added a cover from Amazon while I was around - feel free to replace it.
  • Names with suffixes such as Barend Nieuwstraten, III always get a comma before the suffix, regardless of how they are credited in the book. You can add a note for the exact credit in the notes.

Let me know if you have any questions. Annie (talk) 14:44, 6 April 2023 (EDT)

Similar notes for https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?936640: Barend Nieuwstraten, III again, Fern K. L. Goodliffe name (the dots are everywhere else online so we follow our naming policies and not use the exception rule), Amazon link removed, capitalization fixed in a story (if the title needs special capitalization, a note needs to be added about it) and added a cover while I was around. Let me know if you have any questions. Annie (talk) 15:44, 6 April 2023 (EDT)

Der Mars Greift Ein ---> "Der Mars greift ein"

Hello! There were some corrections necessary for this publication: 1) The title spelling had to be normalized to the one specified in the heading (German rules & spellings are different from the English). 2) The publisher had to be changed to just Goldmann (which was established as the canonical name years ago). 3) For the DNB link: we put those into the 'ExternalIDs' section.

I also added the OCLC link and two notes: if there's in fact a statement for being this the first edition (something like "Origianlausgabe" or "Erstveröffentlichung"), we use to give this information in the notes; the price for the hardcover edition likely is not stated in or on the publication (or is it?), but is stated with the DNB entry.

Thanks for adding this one! Stonecreek (talk) 12:37, 12 May 2023 (EDT)

Ups! I also added the publication series, which I had forgotten with the first edit. Stonecreek (talk) 12:47, 12 May 2023 (EDT)

St. Bialkowski / Stanislaus Bialkowski

Hi, you entered two novels by this author as by 'Stanislaus Bialkowski', whereas DNB (and all other biibliographic sources I know of) state just 'St. Bialkowski' (at least as stated on the title page). Note that we use the statement on the title page. Can you please look that up, and correct if necessary?

Also, the format for Krieg im All was not entered, and thus set to 'unknown', but I guess it's either a hardcover or a trade paperback. Thanks, Stonecreek (talk) 01:38, 16 May 2023 (EDT)

Response: Hello! I never used the talk function before, I hope this works.

Yes, I checked again inside the books and he is indeed credited as St. Bialkowski in both of them. Krieg im All is hardcover, I forgot to choose the format. (JF)

Thanks yor your answer!
Yes, it seems it worked (please sign your posts here and elsewhere on this Wiki with four tildes '~': this way your notes wil be automatically signed & dated.
I will change the entries accordingly, and add also a note on those being the first editions (if there's a note about it to be found inside the publications, it would be better to add this to the notes). How did you get to get hold of them, if I may ask: I do think they are nowadays pretty seldom to be found. Thanks again, Christian Stonecreek (talk) 10:34, 21 May 2023 (EDT)
I purchased them from an online Antiquariat. I started collecting old German SF/F because I love the 1930s pulp fantasy of American magazines and wondered whether we had anything similar in Germany... now I collect the stuff and add it to isfdb when I find it missing :) JarlFrank (talk) 10:04, 29 May 2023 (EDT)

Swords & Heroes cover

I've added the link to Amazon's cover scan for Swords & Heroes and entered the External ID for Amazon in place of their web page. MOHearn (talk) 17:24, 1 June 2023 (EDT)

By the Seaside

● To your verified listing of By the Seaside I have added a note, the cover image, the price, and some external IDs. I also put the anthology in the correct series order, and I changed R D Doan's name to R. D. Doan per ISFDB's protocol. MLB (talk) 02:46, 29 December 2023 (EST)

● By the way, if you're interested in German pulp, check out the thirty-eighth issue of The Paperback Fanatic which has a nice article on the German series Seewölfe. MLB (talk) 02:59, 29 December 2023 (EST)
