Welcome!

Hello, Labreakiron, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 20:21, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I've approved your edits for this publication, please consider the idea of becoming primary verifier for this issue. Thanks. Hauck 08:28, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Return to Wonder #7

Sorry, but I had to delete your image upload for this fanzine. Not only it was way too big with its 1,700 × 2,338 pixels (please resize it so that it only has a maximum of 600 pixels at each of the sides) - which I could have repaired, there seems also a breakdown to the connection between your upload and the image. Please retry again with the right size. Sorry for the trouble, Stonecreek 20:49, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm don't know how to reduce the number of pixels. I did convert it to a jpg file of 208 KB. Would that be acceptable? Lee 21:55, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Well, the ISFDB standards ask that you not upload a file larger than 150 KB, so if you could reduce it a little bit further, that would be fine. Stonecreek 09:26, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Return to Wonder #7

I have changed the types of three records contained in this publication from NONFICTION to ESSAY. The first type is used for larger works, while the latter is used for smaller works which are contained in a larger work. I also changed the title of the piece on page 2 to "Editorial (Return to Wonder, #7 November-December 1969)", the standard for generic titles. Letters should be disambiguated as well. So I changed the titles to "Letter (Return to Wonder, #7 November-December 1969)".

A few questions: is the piece on page 30 a serialization of the story in several parts in various issues of this periodical? If so it should be titled "Golden Peril (Part 2 of X)" and its typed should be SERIAL (and changing "X" to the total number of parts). Is the title of the interiorart piece on page 54 "untitled"? If it is not titled, and not captioned, it should be titled the same as the work it illustrates. In this case, "Return to Wonder, #7 November-December 1969". Thanks. I also had to change the page number you gave for "Roses and Brickbats/Wallet Photo of Robert E. Howard" from "<inserts" to just "inserts". The angle bracket is used in HTML and screws up a record's display if not properly closed. Mhhutchins 01:05, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Made your changes. I uploaded a cover yesterday, which I assume will be posted. Lee 22:20, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
That's up to you. Once the file has been uploaded to the ISFDB server you must update the publication record to add a link to the image file. As the instructions (step 6) explain:
Once the file has been uploaded, the image's wiki page will appear. In order to get the URL (address) for the image you just uploaded, left click anywhere on the image and copy the URL from your browser's address window. (Or right click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location".) If you're adding a cover image to a pub record, this is the URL which you would enter into the pub record's "Image URL" field.
So once you have the image's URL, go back to the pub record (it's linked on the image's wiki page) and then click the "Edit This Pub" link under the Editing Tools menu. This opens up an edit page. Under the Publication Metadata section, there's a field labeled "Image URL:" Enter the URL of the image you uploaded into this field, and then click on the "Submit Data" button at the bottom of the page. Once the submission has been moderated the cover image will be linked to the publication record. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 22:39, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

The Ghost #3

This is a periodical and should be entered as either MAGAZINE or FANZINE. The NONFICTION type is reserved for non-periodical book publications which are nonfiction for the most part. That's why I had to reject the submission to change Return to Wonder from FANZINE to NONFICTION. I'll accept the submission being held for The Ghost but change it to FANZINE. Thanks. Mhhutchins 22:11, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Well, I accepted it...and then saw that I shouldn't have. There's already a record for it in the database. I'll have to delete it, and then delete all of the duplicated contents from the database. Please go to the current record, make any necessary changes, and do a primary verification of the record. This record could have been easily found through a simple search of the database. Mhhutchins 22:17, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

If you object to the term FANZINE, please feel free to change it to MAGAZINE. As I said above, NONFICTION refers to book publication. I will tell Bob that Return to Forever #8 should also be re-typed. Thanks. Mhhutchins 22:31, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
