Welcome!

Hello, Markantonyrossi, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mhhutchins 06:26, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Your recent set of submissions

I accepted the submission to add Church of Jazz to the database, assuming that it contains SF-poetry based on the author's (yours?) current works. Please update the record to add the contents of the publication to the database.

I had to reject your submission to add an article published on The Magill Review website. It is current policy that web-only publications, with few exceptions, are not eligible for inclusion in the database. Exceptions are made for SFWA paying markets, or for downloadable ebook publications in PDF, MOBI, EPUB, or other formats, but not HTML.

I am holding your submission to add a publication record for Collages & Bricolages #13. This is not a speculative fiction publication, and nothing in your submission offers evidence of any content which may be spec-fic. We allow non-genre magazines and publications only if they have fiction which would otherwise qualify for inclusion in the database, but not non-fiction, even if it is sf-related. Can you confirm that this publication contains speculative fiction and will be adding a content record for it?

I await your response before moving on with this submission. Please click on the "[edit]" link to the right of this message, and enter your response in the dialogue window which opens. End you message with four tildes (~~~~) which will automatically sign and date it. Mhhutchins 06:43, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Collages and Bricolages #13 contains some works of SF. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Markantonyrossi (talkcontribs) .
I need more information. If I accept the submission will you enter the SF contents only to the publication record? BTW, don't forget to sign your posts as instructed above. Thanks. Mhhutchins 05:09, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Still waiting for a response. If I've not heard anything in a few days, I'll have to reject the submission. Mhhutchins 21:16, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

No Town of Mine

I've accepted the submission to add this record, but had to make several changes. Please use this as a guideline for future submissions:

  • Amazon's ASIN should not be entered in the ISBN/Catalog # field, because it is neither. You have the option to record it in the Note field.
  • According to the Amazon listing, this was published on March 29, 2012. So the Date field should be entered as 2012-03-29, the ISFDB format for date entry throughout the database.
  • Pub format/binding field was changed to "ebook", the ISFDB standard for indicating electronic publications.
  • Since this is a Kindle formatted ebook, there is no page count. (That is determined by the reader, not the publisher.) That field should be "0".
  • Price field should contain the currency. In this case "$" which I have added.
  • Your link to the Amazon image was for the "Look Inside" image, not the cover of the book. The best way to get to the image is to copy the original URL and remove all characters between the last dot (.) and the previous one, leaving one dot before the file extension. I'll do that for you this time.
  • You failed to enter the contents of this collection. Please edit the record to add records for each of the spec-fic stories contained in the publication.

All of these standards are given on this help page. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 05:19, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Another ed. of No Town of Mine?

I'm holding a submission to add another ebook edition of this title. It seems to be identical to one already in the database, except that the publisher is "Loyalty Press" instead of "Loyalty First Press". Is this a different edition? Also, you used the term "Ebook" and the ISFDB standard is "ebook". I'll hold the submission until you respond here. Mhhutchins 05:35, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Now I'm holding another submission to add another edition of the same work which creates a new title record. Are you trying to update the record already in the database? If so, you're going about it the wrong way. You should go to the record here and click the link "Edit This Pub" under the Editing Tools menu. By using the "Add Publication to This Title" function (as you did in the first submission) you're adding a new edition of the collection. By using the "Add New Collection" function, you're creating a record for a whole new title. Mhhutchins 05:41, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
You might find this page helpful in determining which function to use when adding or editing publication records. Mhhutchins 05:50, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Cover image upload limits

This file exceeds the ISFDB standards for image size. It should not be more than 600 pixels tall. If you can resize it, and then replace the current file, please do so. If you're unable to resize it, let me know and I'll do it for you. Mhhutchins 05:27, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Non-sf publications

Publications without speculative fiction content are not eligible for inclusion in the database. The policy is documented here. If you have any questions about a publication's eligibility, please inquire at the Help Desk before making a submission. Thanks. Mhhutchins 04:09, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
