Magic Mountain in Chelsey Awards Retrospective

Could I get you to double check the name of the artists of Magic Mountain in The Chesley Awards for Science Fiction and Fantasy Art: A Retrospective. The award listing in the isfadb credits the artists as "Butch & Susan Honeck" and I suspect that Susan's name is misspelled in our records. I've also noticed a general issue with the title records in this book. It appears that many of them have been entered with the date of composition rather than the date of first publication. The record for Magic Mountain is a good example of this. While the work was probably created and displayed in 1987, I doubt that it was published until it appeared in this collection in 2003. I've encountered many of these while working on our records for the Chelseys and I've corrected them as I've found them. There may be others that I haven't found. Hi. You verified and probably entered Bliss to You: Trixie's Guide in its 1st ed., 1st printing P617825. Is it your note, now at Publisher: Hyperion Books, "It is possible that this is the same publisher as Hyperion, if that publisher had moved between 2008 and 2017."?

Anyway, does your 2008 book give the street address "77 West 66th Street, New York, New York" that we give for Publisher: Hyperion?

Does it indicate any relation to the Hachette or the Disney publishing group?

A couple of quick notes re: The Spirit in the Clay. I have approved the submission and made a couple of changes:

  • Moved "A novelet in the Chapel Hollow/Silent Strength of Stones universe" from the title field to the Notes field as a subtitle.

Break Tags in Notes Field

I was approving your recent edit to 675529 and I noticed that you included HTML line break tags, i.e. <br>. It was a while back, and you may not have caught the notice when the software was changed to make these tags unnecessary in the notes field. Now, if you simply put each line on a separate line when you enter them in the notes field, the software will take care of displaying them properly. I find that the less HTML in notes makes them easier to read the next time someone edits them. I'll go ahead and remove them from the above publication. The ASIN fields

Hello,

Most books with ISBN (all new paper ones for example) use their ISBN10 as their ASIN so we do not record that as ASIN. Except in very rare cases (such as non-ISBN books), the ASIN will start with a B and if it does not, we do not need to record it. Thanks! Annie 01:19, 17 December 2018 (EST)

The Astrophysicist

I'm entering the artworks in my TP copy of Michael Whelan's Beyond Science Fiction, and I looked to variant the INTERIORART of "The Astrophysicist" with the cover of your edition of the book. But I'm confused by the note you put in the INTERIORART in your edition. You used that INTERIORART to variant the cover, which first seems backwards to me, but more importantly, with that note, I'm reluctant to merge the INTERIORARTs in the two editions. The Books of Earthsea

In your verified The Books of Earthsea, you have a note stating there is an error in some page numbers. There really is not; it is simply that the color plates used as frontispieces for each of the six "books" have no page numbers. The first page of the books, with the title and a B&W illustration each, are the page numbers given in the TOC. The last Roman numbered page is xii. I'll depend on you to fix the page numbers and your note. I'm going to add a scan of the cover, a note saying there are 6 color plates on unnumbered pages acting as frontispieces for each volume included, and that the front and rear endpapers have the cover illustration on the left-hand panel. Chapterbooks

Hi, earlier today I rejected all your chapterbooks submissions because they had no content. It is not just you that makes that mistake, in fact we have a special maintenance report for it (empty now if all's well, but soon filled yet again). While entering a novel it automatically becomes a novel, but you must think of a chapterbook like being a one-story or one poem collection -of an unknown length, hence the need for a title (99% of the cases the same as the title of the chapterbook) and the length -short story, novelette or novella of the short fiction -if it is not a longish poem.--Dirk P Broer 19:20, 28 April 2019 (EDT)

Dirk, what she is saying is that she always adds them this way because we already have the stories in the DB. Once approved, the stories are imported. That way you do not need merging. It is a valid way to do these - they are always a two step process anyway. Annie 04:44, 29 April 2019 (EDT)

I had to reject these two pub edits:

  • Nighty-Nightmare: You edited the first Avon Camelot edition, but your supplied pub notes stated your copy is the 12th printing.
  • The Celery Stalks at Midnight: You edited the first Avon Camelot edition, but you changed it to an undated 25th printing.

We do have capitalization rules for English though (adding a note on exact size on the card may be a better idea than not following the practice). Different author names

Hello Susan! I hold one of your submissions, because I'm a little confused. You want to change the cover of Afraid, but the new cover has another author name. I noticed that another e-book has the real name on the cover and not the pseudonym. Is this the case here as well? Regards Rudolf Rudam 08:59, 6 August 2019 (EDT)

when I bought (for $0.00 <: ) the ebook the amazon page shows the Jack Kilborn cover but the E-book itself says J.A. Konrath (the pseudonym, I think, is Kilborn) -- the title page shows Konrath, not Kilborn -- amazon keeps changing covers so I'm trying to make static local. Susan O'Fearna 12:10, 6 August 2019 (EDT)

You can buy it separate, but don't get the "limited/numbered/signed" stuff -- this one you ONLY get "free" when you order the new edition of The Mist -- it has the illustrations that are NOT in the novella/chapbook (as you can see, I noted that the book itself is just the Scribner trade paperback, with a new cover and dustjacket -- kinda pissed me off! You set the price as 0.00 and not leaving empty - thus me making sure. And yeah - I hate it when publisher just repackage with nothing new and are not saying so -- and ask for premium prices. Ah - you missed the second 4 in the 940841. :) I will approve and insert this elusive "4". I also changed the dates of the contents to 1989-03-00 before the clones are approved. Unlike new Publications, a change in the date of an existing one does not change the contents dates - you need to go to the contents list and change each date in the editPub submission (and then do EditTitle for the ones that were greyed out because they were also used somewhere else). Alan Bard Newcomer has a horrible tendency: various editions of the "same book" will have different release dates, different contents... This edition that I have is smaller than a traditional trade edition but larger than a standard paperback... likely the "deluxe" and "leather" edition will have extra stories (at least on) and the paper edition will not have the intros or one or more of the stories... so I didn't clone them. For the pb thing - if it is bigger than a normal mass market paperback (the regular sized one, not the tall ones), it should be tp (and with notes on how big if it is if you want. Hi Susan, there is another publication of Dragon Tales with the artist stated as Ken Barr - and not Don Maitz. Would you have a chance to check your copy?
