Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

Cover image for The Frankenstein Papers

Hello, and thanks for uploading that one. However, it had to be deleted, as it exceeded the limitation of 600 pixels for one side (see also the last item in the welcome note above). Another moderator took care of uploading it with a smaller size. It would help if you could add the cover artist for that one, though. Thanks again, Stonecreek 11:04, 23 June 2018 (EDT)

++ Thank you, Stonecreek. I keep my covers mostly at 750px height, will reduce them to upload. No idea who cover artist is. SF&F-fanSF&F-fan 12:42, 23 June 2018 (EDT)

George Orwell: The Complete Novels

Hello,

I approved your addition but had to do some changes:

  • The ISBN "9780141911656" is unknown to Amazon and cannot belong to a 1976 book (too early) so I removed it. If your book has the ISBN, then it is not a 1976 book (we record the date of the edition, not the one when it is first printed).
  • Transliterated titles is only for cases when the title uses non-Latin characters so I cleaned up the field.
  • We only add the speculative fiction works (which is why we have only 2 of Orwell works). I added the two to the omnibus
  • Collection is used for collection of short fiction; collections of novels are recorded as omnibuses.
  • Can you please specify the format - is it hardcover or softcover?
  • Can you please verify that the titles of the two novels are written exactly as it shows up now in the contents?
  • Is there a price or a cover available for this edition?

The result is here. Thanks and welcome again! Annie 17:09, 6 July 2018 (EDT)

If it is 2000, it still cannot be ISBN-13. Is it a later printing? If it has ISBN-13 printed, then it is printed after 2005 and if there is no indication when, we use 0000-00-00. Otherwise, we can swap with the ISBN-10 (which I did for now but as soon as we figure out the dates question, I can swap it back). Thanks! Annie 17:58, 6 July 2018 (EDT)
RESPONSE:
Thank you for follow-up, Annie. I'm still learning how to do all this, appreciate the help and corrections.
FYI: I have seen many authors with extensive 'non-genre' listings at the bottom of the page, e.g. Andre Norton.
Andre Norton is mainly an SF author. So she is "above the threshold" - so we include all of her non-genre novels and stories. Orwell is mainly a non-genre author - so we include only genre works. The easiest think to think about this is: if you think of the author, would you say that they are mainly a genre writer? If yes (Asimov, Clarke, Silverberg, Norton), then they are included completely. If not (Orwell, James Fenimore Cooper, Robert Louis Stevenson, Honoré de Balzac, Dickens), we only get their genre works. See the rules of Acuisition, Excluded section, point 2. I have uploaded cover, could not find a way to do that when I was entering the book. The same cover as

THIS PAGE but the one I have is ebook version of the 2000 British edition, no page numbers available anymore.

Yeah, you cannot upload before the book is approved. You need to edit the book again and add the link into the field (see the very first welcome message to you on this page). Annie 18:15, 6 July 2018 (EDT)
I have corrected publish date to 2000 (actual edition) and re-entered the ISBN that is listed in the book. I could email you the copyright page if you want it for verification. ````SF&F-fan
Well, then this is a later printing. Look at the copyright page - is there a number line or a mysterious single number somewhere at the bottom? We record separate printings - so if this is the 24th printing for example (if it has a line like "24 25 26" or just a single "24" somewhere at the bottom of that copyright page), then the date is 0000-00-00 even though the first printing is 2000 (which is hot it sounds). ISBN-13 did not exist until 2005... So if it is printed, then the book was not printed before 2005 - so it cannot carry a 2000 date. Let me know if that does not make sense or if you need more assistance. Annie 18:15, 6 July 2018 (EDT)

When you have questions like the one you submitted here, please post in the Community Portal instead of sending an empty submission. As the novels have a lot of verifiers, our process is to discuss and not have a single moderator (whoever catches your submission) be the only person that sees the message and makes a decision. So can you please post in the Community Portal and and I am sure that the creators of the series will chime in. Thanks! Annie 20:56, 7 July 2018 (EDT) OK, thanks. SF&F-fan 14:38, 8 July 2018 (EDT)
