Welcome!

Hello, Wulf, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!.--Dirk P Broer 04:12, 13 January 2019 (EST)

Alfred Hitchcock's Death Bag

Hello, I've put your submissions on hold and am afraid that it seems they're bound to get rejected: 1) we only list genre contents for non-genre publications (like this) or non-genre contents for above-the-threshold authors; 2) this is a primary verified publication, and grave changes like this would have requested an information of the verifier. Stonecreek 04:57, 5 February 2019 (EST)

In a moderator note, you asked "The book's part of your site so why do you prefer to have it sitting there with just a fraction of it complete?". We are the Internet Speculative Fiction Database. Our database focus on speculative fiction (see our project policy). We make a limited exclusion for significant genre authors, but for the most part, we do not include non-genre works. For a mixed genre pubs, only the genre contents should generally be included. We do appreciate your attempt, but the ISFDB has some conventions that need learning. Everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:46, 5 February 2019 (EST)

Yes, please don't get frustrated. I'll reject the submissions. Stonecreek 03:24, 6 February 2019 (EST)
Also note that non-genre content can be listed in the publication note. That way, the information is there, but it isn't filling up the database with non-genre content. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:24, 30 March 2020 (EDT)

Great tales of the supernatural

Hi, I approved your submission and made it into Great tales of the supernatural. You can best import the titles from 'The mammoth book of thrillers, ghosts and mysteries' and afterwards remove those titles that not are in this one.--Dirk P Broer 08:32, 15 January 2020 (EST)

L. P. Hartley

I had to reject your edit to L. P. Hartley. If you wish to link to the author's specific IMDB page, you may resubmit with that (full) link. Linking to the IMDB main page isn't appropriate. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:09, 17 February 2020 (EST)

Elma B. Edwards

I've put your submission on hold for the moment. You indicated you had this anthology. Is yours the printing I linked, or is it a later printing? (I don't know if there are multiple printings)

If it is this edition, please;

  1. Remove "The Phantom Coach" from the anthology's entry.
  2. Edit the anthology entry to add "The Phantom Coach" again, but with the author as "Elma B. Edwards"
  3. Use the "Make This Title a Variant" tool to variant that "The Phantom Coach" title (the one with "Elma B. Edwards" as the author) to this one.
  4. Use the "Make/Remove Alternate Name" on the "Elma B. Edwards" author entry and enter "16355" in the Parent Record # field.

Please let me know if you have any questions. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:21, 30 March 2020 (EDT)

I have done the necessary steps - but please use this (your) talk page for means of communications, you just have to log in to use it. Stonecreek 06:08, 30 March 2020 (EDT)
Since Stonecreek has done this for you, I have rejected your submission. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:52, 30 March 2020 (EDT)

Horror in Paradise

Hello Wulf,

You mean This Book, right? Horror is tricky - stories of the supernatural are eligible; non-supernatural horror are not (aka "Vampires are in; a cannibal or a crazy man with a knife is out"). Had you read the anthology and can you separate the two types of stories?

  • If yes, then you can add it with only these stories.
  • If not, we can add just the stories we are absolutely sure are speculative and list the rest in the notes (so it is clear what is inside and if one day someone decides another story IS speculative, we have the data).

What do you think? If you would rather not create the contents but have the list of stories (or are willing to type it - complete or partial), you can also post it here and I will update the book as needed. PS: I had to reject this as being inside of an anthology does not make a story part of a series with this name. Annie 20:51, 7 May 2020 (EDT)

Stories to Stay Awake By: Part I

Hello,

As we have a Primary verifier for the book and he is usually around, I had asked him to check the update. It sounds like you have the book as well - if that is the case, please consider verifying it. Thanks for submitting the update! Annie 05:45, 3 June 2020 (EDT)

Confirmed and approved. Thanks again for submitting the change! Annie 18:39, 4 June 2020 (EDT)

The Star Bumper Horror Book 1

So... we have two choices here. You can try to add the stories via an import or I can. If you want to try, here is a little how-to:

  • Go to the book you will be importing from. In this case, this is this one. Get the ID (283612)
  • Now go to the book you want to import INTO. So this one. Look on the left menu and locate "Import Content" which will open this. In Option one paste the ID we found earlier and uncheck the cover import (as it is not the same).
  • In most case you will need to just press the button but as this is a combination of two books with separate numbering, we need to separate them. So for each page add a double number - for example 9 becomes 1009|9, 30 becomes 1030|30 and so on. Then these will go after the first book's entries thus not mixing them up but still showing the numbers as is.
  • Add a note in the publication to explain this double numbering.

Let me know if you want to try OR if you want me to do it. Would you know if this is also true for The Star Bumper Horror Book 2 - collecting books 3 and 4 from the Target run? Annie 07:30, 3 February 2021 (EST)

You can edit this page and respond this way - you just need to login again. Same credentials as the main site, just separate login sessions. Look at the top right corner of the screen here in the wiki for the Login link. :) Annie 21:07, 5 February 2021 (EST)
Meanwhile, I approved the import and you can see how I fixed the page order so that they show up book by book (just edit and look at the Page number fields at the second part of it ) :) Annie 21:11, 5 February 2021 (EST)
