Virginia (Djinn) Frances Faine was an editor of LASFS’ fanzine Shangri L’Affairs in 1958-59. She is credited with revitalizing that zine. It had published only 3 issues between 1953 and 1958, when she took over the reigns as editor and, with friends Al Lewis and Bjo Trimble, brought it back to life. She convinced Charles Burbee to be a "guest editor" on that first new issue (issue #39) and write an editorial for it. After the initial 3 issues of the revived fanzine, she handed editorial duties over to Al Lewis.

Djinn married Gordon R. Dickson on October 10, 1959 in Minnesota. They divorced in 1961.

Virginia was apparently born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1938 or 1939. She and her mother, also Virginia Faine, are shown on the Honolulu, Hawaii passenger lists immigrating to California in 1939 (Hawaii was not yet part of the US). The mother is listed as 32 and the daughter as "0". No other passengers with that surname are traveling with them. In the 1940 California census, they are shown as "Virginia H. Faine" (mother) and "Virginia F. Faine" (daughter). The mother is listed as having been born in Missouri about 1907, but having most recently resided in China. The daughter is listed as having been born "about 1939" in California (but that is unlikely, based on other facts, but she was certainly raised in California). The two of them resided in Whittier, Los Angeles, California. (No other person with that surname is living with them at that time.) After her marriage to Dickson (see above), she married Robert H. Russell in Nevada (date unknown), using "Virginia Faine Russell" as her legal name. They had a son named Liam Mckenzie Russell born about 1970, who is married to Yvette Rene Dalot-Russell, and lives in Huntington Beach, California.
