FYI As existing data on my PVed publications seems to be routinely entered, reformatted, altered or degraded by users and moderators without notification and without a single copy of the books involved, the result is usually just bibliographical bullshit. Thus I just disawow any data that is supposedly PVed by me, the more so because I have not and will not enter or correct any information that may be changed at a moderator's whim. For this reason, it's useless to ask me anything about my PVed publications. Just continue to deface the data as before and don't bother me. Bises. C1

Mise au point

As I seem to be the vilain of the show, a few hard facts may be in order. I am quite an old hand at such projects and I have frequently encountered a tendency in such outfits as yours to generate a caste of contributors that are usually not constricted by their (self or community imposed) rules (Wikipedia being a quite telling example). To gauge your frame of mind, I've started by simply PVing some titles that I own and seeing what happened then.

So, to take the first 100 changes to my verified publications (I stopped my analysis of the data at this point because I then voiced my concerns in the message above), I can say that :

24% of the changes are for publications that are also PVed by the changer (mostly Linguist)
76% of the changes are based only on secondary sources or simple whims

78% of the changes were self moderated (32% by DirkPBroer, 34% By Linguist)

A whooping 6% were communicated on my talk page (with some insults mixed in as can be seen below)

20% had something in the "Note to Moderator", sometimes a text as clear and informative as "notes updates", sometimes more detailed data (generally by Zapp)

As the two previous category overlaps, it means that about 4 out of 5 changes were made without any sort of notification and that 19 out of 20 changes were made without discussion or even some pretence of communication.

So I'll ask two questions :

1) What's the use of being a PV in a bibliographical sense as 95% of the changes are done without concertation and in their vast majority are self-moderated (no questions asked)?

2) AFAIC, why should I loose my time entering correct data that may be changed without consulting me? Normally, I stand by my data (and usually assume my mistakes) but how can I stand for this change made by an ingorant person? or the entering of a pseudonym instead of the canonical name from a secondary source -a breach of your own rules-

IMHO such lack of communication and such hubris create bad feelings and have already driven away some potential contributors. Concerning me, I rest my case and will continue to PV publications for my own purposes but will not add new ones (too bad) and correct data.

Alas, it's not a few, in a system like yours, it's quite usual to see the creation of a caste of "super-users" that end by enforcing their foreign typographic ways (Stonecreek here), their formats (Linguist here) or are just bright enough to copy pure bullshit from unreliable secondary sources (DirkPBroer here). You can add plain libel to this like here. I've let you the benefit of doubt but after nearly a hundred changes (unexplained or just plain wrong) without any communication, I've decided not to participate in such an organization that treat its contributors of lowly status as simple clerks. I don't want my name and reputation associated with such inexact data. All this just confirm the very bad reputation of rudeness and unreliability that you have in the small circle of french bibliographers. You even manage to drive away a person like Thierry (Titi IIRC who is probably the best specialist on Bob Morane that I know) by having Stonecreek explaining to him the diverse Marabout editions of Bob Morane without having never seen one such book. You're slowly transforming into a kind of Wikipedia-type outfit where any person with a bit of power misuse it to suit his/her own liking. It's quite funny (sad really) to see the present discussion about dating the artwork when you see the poor state of this page thanks to one moderator.C1 14:18, 15 November 2019 (EST)

We are not perfect. But things won't get better if the people who care move away. I may step on toes now and again but I am trying to be as fair as I can - and if I am not, I am listening. Or trying to. :) Hey, just tell me if you disagree or if I do something stupid. Most moderators would listen - just go to them and explain your concerns or bring them to the community forum. If you decide to leave, I will be sad to see that happen. If you decide to stay, maybe that can be a driver to improve the way we handle communication. And sometimes it comes down to really discussing policies vs reality and where we compromise. It is a community project - there will always be personalities involved.

PS: And Foss's page will be cleaned up before the end of the year. Unless you are on the side of "don't split based on language" - because then you won't like the result. :) Annie 14:36, 15 November 2019 (EST)

I don't think a hardcover was ever published (no reference anywhere but on Locus1, not mentioned in my pub and the same ISBN).
