Welcome!

Hello, Lindzay, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! BLongley 18:43, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Introduction and question

I've been reading and collecting Science Fiction since 1970, though I was still pretty green then. Have been using ISFDB since 2006 and have wanted to contribute data, though hard to make time. Logged on with user name 22:39, 8 July 2010. Now at long last attempt to make edit, guess what, can log on to isfdb.org/wiki, but NOT isfdb itself. Go round and round trying to find answers. No help. User interface. Thanks.

The usual gotcha is Capitalisation. You need it to be absolutely the same as on the wiki, i.e. "Lindzay" not "lindzay" or "LINDZAY'. If that's not the problem, can you tell us exactly what the error message is when you login? BLongley 18:43, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
I saw your message elsewhere on the Wiki: "Please help. Username: lindzay Login failed: Bad user name (WHY?)" and from that information it is indeed down to the initial capital. I've suggested some ways around it via email, which I hope you've received now - but if not, the basic problem is that Firefox is auto-correcting the initial capital letter for you and it mustn't. You can probably get in via a different browser that hasn't auto-saved your Login details, but I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to go back to Internet Exploder or suchlike so I'd prefer that you get in with your preference. Thank you, very belated, now that it's been so long, guess I must have used a lower case name, but "Lindzay" works fine and I saved my password, so was able to log on fine. Only took a few minutes to realize I had to log on a second time to be able to edit this. Now I'm waiting for confirmation email to reach my recently created Outlook account. Gmail or Google account needs a 2nd account and Outlook appears to be not the worst web-mail ever. After nine plus years of consulting ISFDB on a regular basis to fill out my catalog, I'm eager to start editing, but need to brush up on your conventions before I commit and submit. I recall thinking I would get more organized and make time for this work. I have done extensive work on my catalog as I continue to add more books. One problem, have had to keep most of my collection in storage since 2003, which limits what I have on hand. I'm like the tourist who has been everywhere, but never anywhere for very long.
