Possible Typos

Would you mind double checking these possible typos?

Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 16:04, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

I see that you've discovered my mutant ninja secret power. My hamfisted typing and my undependable spelling. I don't know where some of these are, but I'll try to correct as many as possible, however this has been occupying my time of late. MLB 05:42, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry to read of your mother's death. My deepest condolences. Mhhutchins|talk 06:09, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that. My sympathy. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:11, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

No, you're not!

Things like that do happen to everyone of us (at least me). Christian Stonecreek 07:56, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

ASF 2016-02

Hello, I've approved your submission for this issue, I've linked some reviews and changed ~"Cecilia" to "Cecelia". Hauck 07:50, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

.hack//Another Birth: vol.1//Infection

I corrected the cover artist (the cover designer was listed instead of the artist). I also updated the notes and added a start page for the novel. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:20, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

I also updated all of the title entries in the Another Birth series to have the Japanese titles and added pub entries for each of the Japanese original releases. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:59, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Wow! Thanks! MLB 07:02, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Pulp Tales Press

Hello, I've approved your imports. There may be some work left to variant the covers. Note that it cannot be done automatically by "check for duplicate titles" because the reprint are titled (for example) Fantastic Adventures: November 1939 and the original Fantastic Adventures, November 1939. Hauck 08:04, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

I will take care of it. MLB 04:23, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Jordan M. Babé or Bobé

Can you confirm the credits in this publication for "Jordan M. Babé"? Perhaps they should be "Jordan M. Bobé"? Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins|talk 21:01, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Bobé. Will fix MLB 06:36, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Jeff Conner interview in Dark Discoveries

Can you confirm the title of this interview? Jeff Conner, not Connor, was the publisher of Scream/Press. If the title is correct, leave it be, but please change the interviewee to "Jeff Conner" regardless. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 17:49, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

It is Conner in the interview, but the title on the title page and on the table of contents is Connor. Will change as you suggest. MLB 04:31, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

A String in the Harp

Added a bit more to the notes.--Auric 00:27, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Art credits based on signatures

Re this publication: If the interior art credits are based on signatures, then the canonical form of the artists' names should be used, not the signature. Mhhutchins|talk 07:04, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Adding series data to variants

Re this record: You had added the series data to the variant. I removed it from the variant and added it to the parent record. Keep this in mind in the future. You'll have to wait until the new parent record has been created before adding the series data to the title. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 07:08, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Sorry. MLB 04:07, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

John Kaufman or Kaufmann

Can you confirm the artist credit for the works on pages 28 and 141 of this publication? Credits for "Kaufmann" appear in other issues of Black Gate. Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins|talk 20:41, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Also, is there any indication that the art published in Black Gate by John Kaufmann may be reprints? If not, we may have to disambiguate the artist credits since it's not likely he would start publishing new work 40 years later. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 20:56, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

No, the name is spelled Kaufmann, I have corrected the spelling. No, these pieces of artwork do not seem to be reprints. In fact, they are signed JCK '09. There are no contributor notes/pages for artists, so I hope that this helps. Also, the artwork is very modern looking, perhaps they are related? MLB 04:48, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Captain Future, Winter 1944

Hello, It seems that you submitted twice a similar publication for this title. A mistake? Hauck 10:05, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Man-Size in Marble

Hi, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, November 2001 is verified by you as containing Man-Size in Marble by E. Nesbit. (1887). So far, so good. My problem is with the illustration. Not only is it given by you as predating the story by a year -Man-Size in Marble by Tatjana Mai-Wyss (1886)-, the only Tatjana Mai-Wyss I found is a still living illustrator, born in Switzerland and living presently in the USA (http://tatjanamaiwyss.com/). Could you please check that '1886'? --Dirk P Broer 20:30, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Yes, my mistake, will correct. MLB 04:08, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

The Amber Witch

A likewise case I encountered in your verified copy of Five Victorian Ghost Novels by E. F. Bleiler. I here we have story dated 1846, The Amber Witch by Wilhelm Meinhold, which is illustrated with five pieces pre-dating the story by three years: The Amber Witch by Philip Burne-Jones (1843), The Amber Witch[2] by Philip Burne-Jones (1843), The Amber Witch[3] by Philip Burne-Jones (1843), The Amber Witch[4] by Philip Burne-Jones (1843) and The Amber Witch[5] by Philip Burne-Jones (1843). My main problem with this is that Philip Burne-Jones wasn't born untill 1861...Could you please check the copyright dates for the illustrations?--Dirk P Broer 13:22, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia, a dating of 1895 would be more accurate.--Dirk P Broer 13:59, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm looking for my copy, but things have become so chaotic in my house in the last year. But things are calming down now so with any luck it'll turn up soon. MLB 04:07, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Robert Sanders Shaw = Sam Moskowitz

If you create a variant, you have to also create a pseudonym. Otherwise you'll get something like this. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 04:59, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Facsimile reprint of Startling Stories, July 1942

Is the publication date and price given in this record taken from the publication? Amazon has a different date and price. Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins|talk 06:26, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Title page First Published: March 2015. Price on back cover: $14.95. Adventure House facsimiles no longer carry a Canadian price. I hope this helps. I'll go with the book over Amazon every time. I hope this isn't wrong. MLB 07:00, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Oh, I see, I mistyped. Will correct. MLB 07:01, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Per ISFDB standards, unless prpven to be a printing error, primary data always trumps secondary data. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 21:49, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Spaceship

Re this publication: Please variant the title by "Bob Silverberg" to Robert Silverberg. Are you certain that the editor and publisher credit for the fanzine is not also "Bob" instead of Robert? You should also enter a pub format/binding. If it doesn't fit one of the options, enter it as "Other" and describe it in the Note field.

Another thing, we normally don't leave a space before final punctuation as was given in this record.

One last thing: are you certain that this review is for a work of or related to speculative fiction? If it is, you should create a publication record for it. If not, the REVIEW must be deleted and replaced by an ESSAY. Thanks. Mhhutchins|talk 19:20, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I was going to do most of this, but it was late, and I had to go and get four hours of sleep. "...we normally don't leave a space before final punctuation ...", that's how it was printed on the title page. The review was for a book of fantasy artwork, and the review was pretty detailed, and the artist was banned (!) in Australia and the book pulped. Until then I had never heard of her, will see what I can do. MLB 04:21, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Okay, found some information on the Norton book and I will create a publication record for it soon, I have to go rest for now. Sorry. MLB 06:39, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

USA Weekend

The Stephen King story has been flagged as non-genre in the database, which means it would be against ISFDB policy to add a record for a non-genre publication which doesn't contain speculative fiction. (Non-genre magazines are only eligible for a publication record if they contain a work of speculative fiction.) Can you confirm whether the King story is spec-fic? If not, then you can update the story's title record with a note giving this appearance (that's usually the case, instead of creating a publication record which isn't eligible for the database.) Mhhutchins|talk 05:16, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

I don't know, I've never read it. I picked this up when it first came out. It's in one of his collections so I thought I'd list it. Now I gotta (***sob***) read it. Give me a little time. MLB 05:31, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
The description on Wikipedia makes it at least borderline fantasy. So I accepted the submission. Mhhutchins|talk 00:27, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
BTW, when you use "other" as the pub binding/format, you should describe the publication's format to make it clear that it wouldn't fit into any of the designated categories. Here is the publication record. Please update when you get a chance. Mhhutchins|talk 00:29, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. I noticed the note that says "Only King's story in this issue worth listing." We don't try to place value judgements on works. But perhaps you meant to say that it's the only story eligible for the database? Mhhutchins|talk 06:49, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, will change. MLB 06:51, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Jance work

Can you confirm that the piece by Jance on page 157 of this publication is a non-genre essay? I accepted a submission by another editor that updated the title from SHORTFICTION to ESSAY. Thanks for checking. Mhhutchins|talk 05:07, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

It may very well be a short story. I have it marked as primary transitory because soon afterwards it was donated to my church's rummage sale. I can't keep everything.
But it may be an essay after all. MLB 05:30, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Dan Sakers or Don Sakers?

Would it be safe to assume that this review in your verified Analog Science Fiction and Fact, May 2016 is by Don (rather that Dan) Sakers? Ahasuerus 02:01, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

The Wan by Bo Bakker

Hello, can you add the publication for this book (reviewed in Analog 2016-06) and link the review to it. I didn't found anything on the net (my copy of Analog has not yet reached France). I've also corrected some other linking problem for this issue. Hauck 08:56, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Based on Analog's website, this is by Bo Balder (not Bakker). I have entered the publication here based on Amazon. There is no indication in the English sources that there was a prior Dutch version, but it is possible. I have gone ahead and corrected the review credit and linked it to the title record. MLB, if the publication actually used Bakker, than a note should be added to the publication stating that. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:17, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
No. Thank you. I was going to correct all mistakes and add the columns to their pertinent series after my submission was accepted, but the last two days have been hectic. Will update everything. MLB 05:05, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Swords & Sorcerers

You are the primary verifier for Swords & Sorcerers: Stories from the Worlds of Fantasy and Adventure, which contains the excerpt of Eiji Yoshikawa's novel, "from Musashi." I've read Musashi and I don't recall any part of it that would relate to SF, so I think the excerpt should be categorized as "non-genre."--Rkihara 18:22, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Contacting you from a borrowed access. My computer is sick, phooking viruses (virusii?). I have dumped this book. See my review on Amazon. Will change to transient verifier when I'm back up and running. Change if you want. MLB 23:31, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Amazing 15 vs Amazing 15

Your verified Dead Harvest credits the cover to Amazing 15 (with a space). This company is usually credited as Amazing15 (without a space), including in your verified The Big Reap. Would you mind double checking the credit and either correct or variant as applicable? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:58, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Dragon's Nest

You verified one copy and noted that it is the 6th printing, Scholastic Club Printing 386789.

Does it indicate Scholastic Club Printing on the copyright page?

FYI:

Amazon currently provides "Look Inside!" [1] the 7th printing, 2008 --identified by its complex numberline transcribed here:

[flushleft] 12 11 10 9 8 7 [and flushright] 8 9 10 11 12/0

This weekend I added, annotated, verified the 6th printing, 2005 572509 --identified by

[numberline flushleft] "12 11 10 9 8 7 6" [and flushright] "5 6 7 8 9/0"

Otherwise it differs from the copyright page now at Amazon "Look Inside!" only by the latter's listing ISBN-13 above ISBN-10.

ISBN-10 0439633737 at Amazon US [2].

--stated "Dragons of Deltora #1 Mass Market Paperback -- June 1, 2004"; also 7.4 inches)
the one I entered is a trade paperback but I think this may be a mistake at Amazon rather than a true difference

--Pwendt|talk 21:54, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

It took a while to get up and running again, so sorry I took so long to get back to you. You are 100% right. My copy, or the copy I now have, does not list Scholastic Club Printing anywhere on it. I have no idea where I got that, although I may have had a copy that implied that. Scholastic often sells versions of books (theirs and other publisher's) that are only available through the school systems.
However be that as it may. I have to say that I actually like your listing better than mine. If you wish, you have my permission to delete my submission and I will verify yours. MLB 02:42, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Konhaku Kuroboshi vs Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Kōhaku Kuroboshi)

Hi, you verified Kino No Tabi as being illustrated by Konhaku Kuroboshi. On Amazon the illustrator is credited as Kouhaku Kuroboshi however. And, more important, Wikipedia also knows him as Kouhaku Kuroboshi (even better: Kōhaku Kuroboshi, the ō being pronounced as 'ou').
