Note: Virginia Rose (Cronin) Anderson was the daughter of Joseph and Angela Cronin, raised in the Bronx, and married John L. Anderson in 1940. She received her M.A. from Hunter College in 1965, and worked as an English teacher starting in 1969. She published poetry widely, received several poetry awards, and received honorary doctor's degrees from colleges in Italy, Sweden, Hong Kong, England, and Macao.
