Note: Pineapple Place is from Baltimore in 1939, now an "invisible street that moves from city to city and keeps its inhabitants the same age forever". Ordinarily its people are invisible to outsiders.
In the first book, 10-year-old August is a new boy uncomfortable in Georgetown, Washington DC, during the time Pineapple Place is there. His first friends are the invisible children.
In the second book, 9-year-old Jeremy is bored with 50 years of fourth grade. He "contrives to be seen, makes a friend, even visits sixth grade in a 1980's school--and precipitates some real change at last."
