U California and U Michigan book plates are affixed to both inside front covers, where university library endpapers would suggest the books has been. The outside front covers appear to be identical: nearly black cloth with relief design essentially illegible, but adequate to discern that they match. If those covers are original, and "boards" rather than "limp leather", then this is a hardcover publication.
