  • Publication: City of a Thousand SunsPublication Record # 279523
  • Author: Samuel R. Delany
  • Date: 1969-01-00
  • ISBN: 0-7221-2885-1 [978-0-7221-2885-5]
  • Publisher: Sphere
  • Price:
5/-?Prior to decimilisation (1968-1971), UK books were priced in shillings, or shillings and pence, where 20 shillings equals one pound and 12 old pence equals one shilling. Shillings were indicated with a variety of suffixes, e.g. 3s, 3', 3", 3/ all mean 3 shillings. Any number after that is additional pence, usually 6 (half a shilling) but sometimes 3 or 9 (a quarter of a shilling or three-quarters of a shilling).
  • Pages: 141
  • Format:
pb?Paperback. Typically 7" by 4.25" (18 cm by 11 cm) or smaller, though trimming errors can cause them to sometimes be slightly (less than 1/4 extra inch) taller or wider/deeper.
  • Type: NOVEL
  • Cover: City of a Thousand Suns (1969) • by Russell FitzGerald
  • Notes:
    • "© Samuel R. Delany"
    • "First published in Great Britain in 1969 on copyright page."
    • No number line present.
    • Publication month from the 1968 Sphere edition of "Out of the Dead City"
    • 28851 printed on back cover, full ISBN not present
    • Revised text from US Ace edition.
    • There is a printing error in this publication. The story ends on page 140 and is followed by page 141 which is the first page of the Epilogue. We would have expected the epilogue to be continued on pages 142 and 143. However, the publication has unpaginated advertising there. To read the story from start to finish you would read from page 9 to 141 and then skip back to the beginning of the publication to read the remainder of the epilogue on pages 7 and 8.
    • This publication does not include the "Appendix to the Fall of the Towers" VT "Afterword" essays that are found in some editions of City of a Thousand Suns. It appears the publisher put some effort into fitting the publication within nine 16-page signatures (144 pages total). For example, chapters do not start on a new page. Even with this there was not enough room to include the "Afterword" essay.
    • The artist is not credited, "FitzGerald '68" is on the artwork
