"With a new Forward by the author" above author's name on title page. The Foreward is not dated separately and it is therefore not determined to when it first was done, nor the date of the revision.
    • Contains a 14 July 1973 introduction by Peter S. Beagle on the 3rd page in, before title pages. This introduction is not titled on page 3. It ends with -Peter S. Beagle (over) Watsonville, California (over) 14 July 1973. Dated to the date given. This essay is repeated exactly in all three books of The Lord of the Rings. This introduction is also used in the November 1978 edition of The Hobbit or There and Back Again (Revised Edition).
