- "The book combines the text and illustrations of "A Danish Story-Book" and "The Nightingale and Other Tales", both published by Joseph Cundall the preceding year." The first 12 stories, through "Little Ellie", were published by J. Cundall in the Charles Boner translation as "A Danish Story Book" in 1846. The other 9 stories were published by Cundall as "The Nightingale and Other Tales", also in 1846.
