    • Note by Seymour Menton: "The translations of the stories and the critical apparatus represent a collective effort but ultimately I accept responsibility for all the translations. As the credits indicate, ten of the translations had previously been published but most of them have been modified to a greater or lesser extent. The majority of the stories were translated at the Translation Center of the Department of Comparative Literature at the State University of New York at Binghamton under the supervision of Gustavo Pellón..."
    • Title page reads "Published by UCLA Latin American Center Publications and University of California Press". There is a list of the volumes in the Latin American Studies series, of which this is no. 49, which explains that most of the volumes in the series were published by UCLA Latin American Center Publications, but this one was published by U of C Press "in cooperation with" the Latin American Center.
