The cover painting is not credited but has the initials B.R. just visible [could be cropped on some copies]. Likewise the map is not credited, or signed but has been ascribed to Tolkien from various sources. The cover notes a Special Foreword but it's just a synopsis. The pagination is continuous through the Roman numbers into the novel proper. Printed in Canada
