    • This collection includes all of the JRRT-read material on the three Caedmon LPs with one exception: a later (1967) reading of "Ai! laurië lantar" (spoken version) replaces an earlier version with slightly different text that appeared on the LP. The CDs add two additional 1967 readings: "Errantry" and "Princess Mee."
    • Discs 3 and 4 contain readings by Christopher Tolkien of excerpts from The Silmarillion.
    • Contents Disc 3: Selections from The Silmarillion chapter 19, Of Beren and Luthien, and chapter 20, Of the Fifth Battle: "The story tells that after the battle in which Morgoth"; "Then there came a time near dawn on the eve of spring"; "The story tells that Beren, leaving"; "In the time when Sauron cast Beren into the pit"; "The story tells that Huan found Luthien"; "The story tells that Huan returned to"; "It is said that Beren and Luthien returned."
    • Contents Disc 4: Selections from The Silmarillion chapter 8, Of the Darkening of Valinor: "When Manwe heard of the ways that Melkor had taken"; "So the great darkness fell upon Valinor." Selections from The Silmarillion chapter 9, Of the Flight of the Noldor: "After a time a great concourse gathered about the ring of doom"; "Now when it was known that Morgoth had escaped from Valinor"; "Now Fëanor led the Noldor northward."
