Note: Boston publisher 1885 to 1889 Successor in some sense to the second James R. Osgood and Company. Following the latter's bankruptcy in 1885, "Osgood's young partners, Thomas [forename?] and Benjamin Ticknor, found a third partner and started a new firm." In 1889 it became part of Houghton, Mifflin, and Co. (Houghton Mifflin). Benjamin Holt and Thomas Baldwin Ticknor, second and third sons of William Davis Ticknor (1810–1864), all three of whom entered his firm, known best as Ticknor and Fields.
