• Note: Established in 1923. In 1969 the Dial Press became wholly owned by Dell Publishing Company. The adult division of the publisher became an imprint of Doubleday in 1976 when Doubleday bought Dell while the children part (Dial Books for Young Readers) was sold to E. P. Dutton. The press (now an imprint of Doubleday) was briefly dissolved in 1985 but then revived as part of Bantam/Doubleday/Dell and became part of Random House when Bantam/Doubleday/Dell became part of it. After the 2013 merger of Penguin and Random House, the adult division of The Dial Press remained an imprint of Random House.
