  • Publication Series: OPTA - Galaxie Bis Pub. Series Record # 178
  • Webpages: Wikipedia-FR
  • Note: Name : Galaxie Bis (note that the first titles have Galaxie Spécial on spine and the later covers have Galaxie/Bis) Publisher : OPTA then Nouvelles éditions OPTA, Paris Period of activity : 1965 to 1987 Series' Editors : Jacques Sadoul & Alain Dorémieux, then Michel Demuth then Daniel Walther. Number of titles in the series : 148 Numbering system : straight numeric from 1 to 148 (no holes by convention, but see below for the case of #130-131-132)). Format : paperback, 13 x 19 (#1 & 2), 11 x 18 cm (the rest). Length : variable, from #87 the length of the book globally corresponds to a certain number of stars (from 1 to 4) on spine. Presentation : at least four 1) #1 & 2 (bigger, no illustration), # 3 to 34 (illustration in a rectangle), #35 to 53 (illustration on bottom), #53 to 148 (name of series on right, mirror image of front cover on back cover). Note that #53 exists under the two presentations Artists : generally original artwork from french artists specially commissioned for the books. Reprinting policy : strange. One straight reprint (# 35 with same number), three reprints with same number on book but a different number on catalogue (#130-131-132), later reprints with new number (the Dicksons #144-146-148 and one Norman). The first titles (from #3 to #54) have, in addition of the main novel, a variable number of short stories added (1 to 4) this is probably due to postal regulations as this series was presented as supplement of the magazine Galaxie. Origin of texts : at first, essentially first french publications, then titles coming from other OPTA series (Moorcock, Niven). Bibliographical data present on the books : Dépôt Légal and ISBN are present (later for the ISBN) but ISBNs are frequently false or given to multiple books. The AI was at first present, then dropped (when printing was made in Belgium). The illustrators are generally credited but sometimes wrongly with later erratums. The english titles are generally given. Content : The series has a few collections but consists mostly of novels, parts of series.
