Note: A publication series of illustrated short novels (chapter books) for older children with a common theme: "scary". The series editor was Gary Crew. The original publisher was Lothian Books (Australia), starting in 1995. The series was taken up by Franklin Watts (UK), starting in 1999. It appears that some of the Lothian titles were dropped and/or rearranged by Franklin Watts. Known examples:

• "The Doll" is #23 in Lothian, but #14 in Franklin Watts (the latter from the image on Amazon UK)
• "The Ghost of Love Street" is 17 / 16, respectively
• "The Crescent Moon" is 31 / 18, respectively
• "The Puppet" is 35 / 23, respectively
• "The Tunnel" is 15 / 24, respectively

The Lothian series numbering has been used in ISFDB with gaps filled in from a copy of #40, Isobelle Carmody's "The Landlord".
