Note: Short story magazine established in Vienna, Austria, 1931 Moved to New York City, 1933 Based in Columbus, Ohio, and "published on and off since 1931" Whit Burnett and Martha Foley, his first wife, founded the magazine and moved it to New York. Burnett and Foley established The Story Press in 1936. Burnett and Hallie Burnett, his second wife, led the magazine until it went out of business in 1967. Later spans: 1989–2000, 2014–2016, 2019–
