Note: The story is told as a series of letters, dialogs, etc with numerous illustrations throughout. Reported 147- and 160-page editions are likely to have identical interiors, except some of the front material.   Examination of the Sandpiper ed. shows 80 leaves or 160 pages between paper covers. The story material broadly defined includes both inside covers and spans 159 pages in that the only exceptions are the first leaf verso (list of Klise books) and the second leaf (title and copyright pages).   Page numbers run from 9 to 147, which spans the mainly-text documents, but those are immediately preceded and followed by mainly-portrait illustrations with captions; finally followed by a two-page cartoon "House Your Knowledge of Victorian Architecture". All that runs from the third leaf to the inside back cover, or p[1-8], 9-147, [148-157]. In these terms p[1] is a text note to the reader, "The following is a collection of actual letters and documents written in the course of one summer ...".   The front cover opens to a two-page span on the Victorian mansion at 43 Old Cemetery Road.
