Note: According to Richard Dalby's Afterword in the 1998 Caliban edition of Pamely's collection, this story was supposed to be included in Dalby's anthology The Spectre Spiders in 1973, but the publisher went out of print; it would have been the first-ever reprint of one of Pamely's tales. The story was eventually reprinted in Dalby's 1991 anthology Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories 2.
