Author: Charles Lever
Date: 1842-08-00
Type: SHORTFICTION [non-genre]
Length: short story

Note: This is a macabre but non-speculative story. It is a chapter from Our Mess: Jack Hinton, the Guardsman, and it first appeared as a serial installment simultaneously in the Dublin University Magazine and the New World in August, 1842, unsigned. This story sometimes appears in lists of speculative fiction because Ashley and Contento indexed the entire contents of Weird Tales: Irish in The Supernatural Index without indicating which of its stories, such as this one, did not actually have speculative elements.
