Note: Apparitions: A Narrative of Facts (Longmans, 1874), as by Rev. Bourchier Wrey Savile, M.A., is a book of 24 chapters that each present an account of some apparition as fact or probable fact, with a paragraph or three of introductory prose.   For instance, Chapter XIX, "Marshal Blucher", opens (p. 221, viewed at Internet Archive) with three paragraphs that are omitted from its reprint in an 1898 anthology as "Marshal Blücher": [1] "Before recording the extraordinary incident ..." [2] "Lady Clementina Davies, in her Recollections, mentions General Von Gravan, who had fought at Waterloo, narrated to her the following story ..." [3] "The Prussian General Von Gravan ..." The Marshal Blücher story as reprinted in 1898 then begins in the fourth paragraph.   Whichever story is contained in the 1979 anthology, the "excerpt" is likely but not certain to consist of omitting the opening paragraph(s) of the chapter, which introduce the story per se.
