Note: The Japanese title of this novel, 風の歌を聴け, is transcribed as Kaze no uta o kike in the Revised Hepburn notation, and means literally "listen to the song of the wind". It is composed of 風, kaze, "wind", の, no, "of", 歌, uta, "song", を, o, "it" and 聴け, kike, "listen to". It first appeared in the June 1979 issue of the literary magazine 群像, Gunzō, "Images", and published in book form on July 25, 1979.
