Spire
"First illustration for a story I want to do about a boy who discovers that the gargoyles and animals all have a secret existence of their own. An early influence was the Film "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" with Charles Laughton. I have always been impressed by the exuberance of Gothic cathedrals and how designers and masons turned stone into living substance. I wanted to climb up and explore the crocketed spires, but being earthbound I did it in my imagination."
1976
