Note: According to the 1982 preface by Michael Görden to the omnibus edition of Schiller's and Ewers's novels, this is a fragmentary non-genre novel. However, Everett F. Bleiler includes this in The Guide to Supernatural Fiction and specifically describers the supernatural elements. It was first published in the magazine Thalia. Ewers's sequel also has supernatural elements.
