Synopsis: A complex story steeped in a haunting atmosphere, with multiple narrators and intertwined plots, and set on the wind-swept Belgian coast near Ostende. Members of a mysterious organization, who will turn out to be Jupiterians, are preparing the massive murder of all humans by building a no less mysterious "grid" made of assembled "bars" bearing coded letters that spell the name of Jupiter. Different alien and human protagonists nearly achieve the completion of the project, but stop at the last minute and destroy their work, for obscure psychological reasons. The ultimate, unnamed narrator seems to be the devil himself.
