The first, 'Swamp Echoes' takes place in the bayeux around New Orleans in between the wars, involving supernatural horrors of the voudoun and Scottish mythology. The tone is largely of horror. The second novella, 'The Case of the Superfluous Hunter' is a Holmesian pastiche taking place in the 1870s in and around Blenheim Castle. Dr. Buzzard, physician to the house of the Churchills, finds sinister forces at work in the case of Randolph Churchill and the stables and town surrounding. The third novella, 'Exhibition in a Museum' takes place very much within H.P. Lovecraft's 'Cthulhu Mythos,' as a feud between two Academics at Arkham University at the end links into a horrifying chain of events going back to the First Century A.D.
