Synopsis: From the front flap of the Antheneum first edition: "Life on the planet Torin was never easy for your nobles, the children of the ruling clan leaders. Subject always to rigid clan discipline, to dreary teachers and teachings, they yearned for freedom. And it was freedom that the First Diviner, Orath Veer, offered them. In the training sessions he held each summer for those sixteen years shown and more, he promised adventure, freedom, and power they would follow him and they accepted.
Yet to Rovan, who had been called early, in his fifteenth year, to the Summer Exercises, something was amiss. Rovan had the mind powers of a Diviner, himself, and though he was fascinated by Oran Veer, he did not like all he saw happening at Windrock Temple, where all the young of the clans gathers.
It was not until he was sent to a spy to that arch Diviner, Nantgeeb, however, that he really began to sense what was happening. The death of The Great Elder, Tiath Arvan Pentroy was near. With his death would come the dark days, forty days when the First Diviner would rule. And in those days Orath Veer intended to bring in the Legendary Great Harvest, a time of change and restructuring in society. The repressed children of the clans would help him create a new world. But Rovan found that he could not join them. Orath Veer was not seeking a better life for all but simply power for himself. When the dark days came then, it was Rovan against his friends, against his own beloved sister and against a cunning power that had planned well. Yet Rovan and those who joined him had a power of their own, especially since the Humans on Torin were a part of these forces. Still, the death of the Great Elder brought dark days indeed and changes ever Orath Veer had not foreseen."
