1830ⓘ Translated by Duncan Forbes, A.M. The novel as printed in 1830 contains numerous editorial footnotes by Forbes. The 1830 preface by Forbes suggests that interpretation as a collection may also be plausible (p[v] viewed at HathiTrust): "The following translation of the Adventures of Hatim Tai may not perhaps merit from the English reader that interest which the original holds for the natives of the East. ... "The Seven Tales which form the present volume, have in them a due portion of the supernatural; but it would be unfair to condemn them on that account, ... This translation was "revised and edited" by William R. Alger, and printed without notes, in the 1896 Home and School Library edition. See the 1896 novel for some comparison.
