1958Translated by I. O. Evans. This translation begins: "There were seven or eight hundred of them at least. Of medium height, but strong, supple, framed to make prodigious bounds, they gamboled in the last rays of the sun, now setting over the mountains which formed serried ridges westward of the roadstead." I. O. Evans is credited as both the person that discovered this Jules Verne work and who translated it into English. (Source: Introduction to the story in The Best from Fantasy and Science Fiction, Eighth Series (1959) published by Doubleday.) Originally published in Le Chemin de France (The Flight to France), in 1887.

1977Translated by Nikola Popović.
