Note: • Literal translation "Powers of Darkness". • This novel started as an attempt by the Icelandic publisher and writer Valdimar Asmundsson to translate Bram Stoker's "Dracula". However, the resulting text was very different from Stoker's original, including new characters and a completely reworked plot. • The text was first published in Reykjavik's periodical Fjallkonan between January 13, 1900 and March 20, 1901. • The first book publication was in 1901 with an original introduction by Bram Stoker, which remained unknown outside of Iceland until 1986. It wasn't until 2014 that Hans Corneel de Roos discovered that the text was not just a translation, but a completely reworked novel. • The first English translation appeared in 2016.
