Note: First published in Neff's debut coll Vejce naruby (1985; 2nd ed 1997), reprinted in retrospective Dvorana zvrhlosti (2004).
In the (east-)German translated collection "Ei verkehrt" (1989) the story is among 7 (out of 23) left out, possibly on the basis of length (5500 words, most are rather shorter). The 1997 German version "Reinhard Heydrichs siebte Inkarnation" is based on this story but for reasons unknown replaces the character and some related details including the titular number ("seventh"), giving the Czech original title "Sedmé převtĕlení Reinharda Heydricha" which however was never published as such.
Synopsis: The unit of Otto Skorzeny, who per SS/Nazi mystic considers himself a sixth reincarnation of a medieval knight, is sent to Crete just before the German invasion on a special mission. He meets and shoots the Minotaur but is transformed (or possibly is just claimed to be, in a feverish dream and metaphor) by his blood, inheriting his hateful inhumanity - hence the title "The Second Reincarnation of O. S.".
