- Fire fairies live in the Fire Country, which may occasionally be viewed at any active hearth through "the leaping flames, the smoldering embers". The Princess is cursed at birth by a wicked Earth fairy, and is invisible except for a tiny flame. The King, and later Prince Radiance, seek to undo that. --gleaned from the first several pages
- "The adventures have largely to do with wicked fairies, who try to outwit the Prince [Radiance] in his efforts to throw a much-coveted veil over the Princess. ... most of the adventures take place in the land of evil, with grotesqueries ...".
