Note: This is the 1961 version of the text and is not to be confused with the 2 other versions. The text was expanded from the 1957 novelette "Bird of Prey" for the 1959 German translation and then abridged for the 1961 Ace Double publication as part of "The Door Through Space / Rendezvous on a Lost World". The novel text was restored for the 1979 Ace edition -- see the 1979 title record for details. Note that some sources claim that this work is a part of the Darkover series. According to SFE, it's only marginally related.'
