Note:
- Set in Sanday, Orkney, where Cutt was born (same as Seven for the Sea) --Wikipedia
- There may be a sequel in Seven for the Sea (Autumn 1972), which shows "two young cousins back in time to witness the tragic story behind the family nickname 'Selkie'." Both develop the Selkie myth, apparently.
Synopsis:
The story features a "family in the Orkneys said to have seal blood in its veins and so to be able to communicate with all kinds of sea creatures."
--brief review in "Unreal but True: Isabel Quigly on fantasy" The Guardian 1972-07-13 p15 (positive)
Canadian writer Cutt "uses his homeland as a setting and proves that conservation of a species (in this case, seals) can lend an effective background for a good yarn."
--brief review by Edward Parsons The Globe and Mail (Toronto) 1972-11-18 p32 "Exceptional — to a point"
