As published by Penguin Books (undated 5th printing, below) the Preface is signed "Ayot Saint Lawrence, 1921 / Revised, 1944".
The postscript in that publication is signed "Ayot Saint Lawrence, 1944".
Thus the revised Preface may be first published in the 1944 Penguin Books "[New postscript ed.]" reported by WorldCat record OCLC 224983578.
1946 newspaper coverage of The World's Classics #500 notes that Oxford University Press approached Shaw two years ago about issuing an edition as #500 in the series, in conjunction with his 90th birthday (July 1946).
