Note: According to Thomas Hahn, this verse narrative was probably composed in Cumberland and survives in four fifteenth-century manuscripts from various parts of England. He says: "While its supernatural and chivalric storylines have affinities with popular tales, the complex rhyme scheme, narrative structure, written sources, allusions, and content demonstrate that Awntyrs was a distinctively literary effort."
