Note: Author's note: "The story 'Inanna and Dumuzi' is based on Sumerian love songs, poems, and stories deciphered by S. N. Kramer and other Sumerian scholars from the Sumerian cuneiform tablets dating back to around 2,000 B.C.E. I have pieced together, arranged, and abbreviated the translations of these Sumerian fragments to form a coherent love story. In a few instances, I have added phrases to clarify the text."
